Berlin Recap: Patrick Sheltra and his
Whitesville, Kentucky team finished 14th in last Saturday’s
Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac at Berlin
Raceway. After practicing in the top-10, Sheltra rebounded
with a solid 10th place qualifying effort. During the course
of the 200 lap event, Sheltra kept himself in the top-10
but was unable to fend off an extremely loose racecar which
resulted in the team’s eighth top-15 finish of 2009.
Returning To Long Pond: The Indiantown,
Florida native will make his seventh start at the popular
triangle race course and aim for his second consecutive
top-five finish this weekend. In his previous six efforts,
Sheltra has acquired a track best of third this past June.
Qualifying though has not been a downfall for the popular
driver as Sheltra has nailed five top-15 qualifying runs
including a track best of eighth in the spring race of this
year.

The Coach Back For Round Two: last week
Sheltra Motorsports announced NASCAR veteran Ted Musgrave
has joined the veteran ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) team as
a driver coach for Indiantown, Florida native Patrick Sheltra
beginning with last weekend’s Wolverine Power Systems
200 presented by Generac at Berlin (Mi.) Raceway. Musgrave,
a native of Franklin, Wisconsin has over 18 years of experience
combined between the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS),
NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
(NSCS). At Pocono, Musgrave, the 2005 NCWTS Champion has
20 starts which have equaled five top-five finishes and
six top-10 efforts including a second place finish in 1995
driving for Roush Fenway Racing.
Welcome To Our Real World Again: In April,
Sheltra Motorsports hosted Scott Herman of this past season’s
MTV’s Real World: Brooklyn at Talladega Superspeedway.
Herman enjoyed himself so much that he has opted for another
trip down memory lane with Sheltra Motorsports this weekend
at Pocono. For Herman, the race is a little is closer to
his current residence of New York City.
Herman is a native of Salem, New Hampshire and is a personal
trainer, model and actor. He recently received the designation
of having the “best abs on the East Coast”,
and has been featured in Men’s Health magazine several
times.
Off To New Jersey: Following Saturday’s
Pennsylvania ARCA 200, the Sheltra Motorsports team will
head to New Jersey to partake in a private test session
at New Jersey Motorsports Park in preparation for the running
of the New Jersey ARCA 150 set for Sunday, September 13th.
Last year, Sheltra made his road course racing debut and
battled back from a mechanical failure in practice to qualify
21st before finishing 11th in the rain-shortened Loud Energy
Drink 150.
Watcha Haulin?: Crew Chief John Hayden
has elected to bring Sheltra chassis number 11 to Pocono
Raceway this weekend. The primary machine will be the same
Dodge that Sheltra competed with at Pocono Raceway in June.
Additionally, the team wheeled this automobile in the Prairie
Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway earlier this month. The former
Penske Racing automobile will be run for just the fifth
time in Sheltra’s ARCA career. Chassis number 16 will
serve as the team’s back-up automobile. That former
Richard Childress Racing entry is a new addition to the
team’s fleet. The Whitesville, Kentucky based team
tested this Dodge Charger at Michigan International Speedway
in May.

ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits eighth

Sheltra Motorsports, Pocono
Raceway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver of the
No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:
On Berlin Raceway: “I really enjoy
racing at Berlin but ever since finishing in the top-five
there in 2007 we’ve struggled a little bit. We had
a pretty good car it was just loose as heck. No matter what
we did, it would never tighten up enough where I could drive
it like I should. The best news out of the weekend was we
brought the car home in one piece and we’ll be able
to use it again here in the next month or two.”
On Pocono Raceway: “After finishing
third in June, I can’t wait for Saturday. The car
was really good. We had a major sway bar issue here the
last time and we were still able to get a good finish. I
think we have a car that is capable of winning the race
on Saturday afternoon and that would be a great direction
to keep our second half of the season pointed towards the
top.”
On Working With Driver Coach Ted Musgrave:
“He’s been super awesome to work with. He was
quiet last weekend at Berlin, but I was prepared for that.
He taught me a lot of things not only about the track and
my driving style but about the car as well. He called me
the Monday following the race and we talked about what we
can do to enhance my performance. I’m looking forward
to his guidance for Pocono Raceway, a track he’s had
some success at too in the past.”
On The Return Of Scott Herman: “Scott
was a blast to hang out with in April at and I’m glad
that he is coming back for a second round this weekend.
We were running really good until we blew up at Talladega,
so hopefully we give him the complete package or maybe even
take him to victory lane on Saturday.”
On Upcoming New Jersey Test: “New
Jersey was a lot of fun last year. I really enjoyed racing
on a road course. The test should go smoothly for us next
Tuesday, but I’m also looking forward to spending
some down time with my team after the Pocono race.”
Sheltra Motorsports, Pocono
Raceway Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner of the No.
60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:
On Berlin: “We had high hopes for
the race but Patrick did the best he could under the circumstances.
The guys fought all night to make the car better but nothing
seemed to work. We were off our element a little last weekend.
It wasn’t a great finish, but it was respectable and
we’ll just have to march forward and not look back.”
On Pocono: “Finally, Patrick had
some luck at Pocono in June. He was really happy with the
car and especially the motor under the hood. He’s
been anxiously waiting to get back there. The wait is over
and his confidence is high. I would not be surprised if
we’re celebrating in victory lane for the second time
this season on Saturday.”
On Ted Musgrave: “I like him. He
seems to like Patrick and proved to be a great mentor for
the team last weekend at Berlin. He’s looking into
this team as an outsider and offering the best advice he
possibly can. We need that and that’s why he’s
here. Patrick really enjoys working with Ted too, so it’s
a win-win situation as far as I’m concerned.”
