Illinois State Fairgrounds, Springfield, Illinois
Race Information: Event: Allen Crowe 100,
Sunday, August 23, at 1:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Illinois
State Fairgrounds Qualifying: Sunday, August 23, at 11:00
a.m. Local Time; Track Length: 1.0-mile clay.
Pocono Recap: Patrick Sheltra and his
Whitesville, Kentucky team finished 11th in the most recent
ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Pocono Raceway earlier this
month. After starting 10th based on qualifying being rained,
Sheltra climbed to as high as sixth before handling issues
developed forcing a backslide for the No. 60 Buffalo Wings
& Rings Dodge. Sheltra recovered in the later stages
of the event to post his ninth top-15 of the 2009 season.
Welcome To My Turf: Patrick Sheltra is
no stranger to the dirt and for the fifth time in his ARCA
RE/MAX Series career, Sheltra will return to the dirt in
the ARCA RE/MAX Series gunning for win number two Sunday
afternoon. Sheltra showcased his driving talent on the dirt
competing in USAC and UMP late model events throughout the
United States before making the transition to asphalt full
time in 2007.
One Year Ago: After recording his very
first podium (third place) finish in the ARCA RE/MAX Series
a year earlier at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Sheltra
Motorsports returned to the one-mile oval looking for a
similar effort in 2008. Sheltra was on track to record his
second straight podium effort at the Springfield, Illinois
venue and potentially his very first career victory but
a flat tire late in the event forced a unscheduled pit stop
and relegated Sheltra to a 12th place finish.
All Camo-Out: For the first time since
the season opener at Daytona International Speedway in February,
the Sheltra Motorsports team will sport a different paint
scheme for Sunday’s Allen Crowe 100. The team will
utilize the same paint scheme they ran with their Dodges
last year which consisted of a very slick looking all-camouflage
No. 60 entry. This weekend will mark the first time that
marketing partner Buffalo Wings & Rings will be hoisted
atop of the team’s popular layout arrangement.
Vacation Over; Time To Get Busy: After
a much needed two week break from ARCA competition, Patrick
Sheltra grabbed the high gear and started preparing for
a busy six race stretch for the ARCA RE/MAX Series beginning
with an open test this past Wednesday at Chicagoland (Il.)
Speedway in preparation for next Friday’s Ansell Cut
Protection 150. Beginning with this weekend’s race
at Springfield, the ARCA series will begin a grueling stretch
of events combining of dirt tracks (two), intermediate track
(one) a road course (one) and short tracks (two).
The Coach Still Coaching: Former NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series Champion Ted Musgrave will continue
to serve as the driving coach for the 23-year old Sheltra
this weekend and the remainder of the 2009 racing season.
Musgrave, a native of Franklin, Wisconsin has over 18 years
of experience combined between the NASCAR Camping World
Truck Series (NCWTS), NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS).
NASCAR Nationwide Series Plans To Be Announced
Soon: Sheltra Motorsports will announce their plans
for the remainder of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
season in the near future. Sheltra made his third career
NNS start and first of the season last month at Daytona
International Speedway driving the No. 81 D.H. Griffin-Quality
Turf Dodge Charger for MacDonald Motorsports.
Watcha Haulin?: Crew Chief John Hayden
has elected to bring Sheltra Motorsports chassis number
7 to the Illinois State Fairgrounds this weekend. This is
the same automobile the team participated with the Illinois
State Fairgrounds last year and notched a runner-up finish
at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds. The team converted the
former Dale Earnhardt, Inc. automobile to a Dodge Charger
during the last year. It will be run for just the seventh
time in the 23-year old’s career. Chassis number 16
will serve as the team’s back-up automobile. That
former Richard Childress Racing entry is a new addition
to the team’s fleet. The Whitesville, Kentucky based
team tested this Dodge Charger at Michigan International
Speedway in May.
Points Check: After round 13 on the 2009
ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits eighth
in the championship standings accumulating 2555 points.
Just 220 points keeps Sheltra from the fourth position.
The Indiantown, Florida native is 630 markers from the top-spot.
Car owner Grace Sheltra sits 10th in the car owner standings.
Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering
Springfield, Sheltra has 59 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to
his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April
2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated nine
top-fives and posted 19 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying
effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s
best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the
ARCA field five times for 109 laps.
Keeping The Streak Alive: For 36 consecutive
races, Sheltra Motorsports has fielded a car for Patrick
Sheltra that run in the top-10 (at one point or another)
for all events reverting back to the 2007 ARCA RE/MAX 250
at Talladega Superspeedway. The team added their 36th race
at Pocono Raceway by running as high as sixth before finishing
11th in the Pennsylvania ARCA 200. During this period, the
team has amassed one win, seven top-fives and 15 top-10
finishes. The team’s best qualifying effort occurred
at Rockingham Speedway in April where Sheltra awarded himself
with a career best run of third. The team has led five races
at Cayuga Motor Speedway (2008), Kansas Speedway (2008),
Rockingham Speedway (2009), Salem Speedway (2009) and Talladega
Superspeedway (2008) for a total of 109 laps.

State Fairgrounds Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver
of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:
On Pocono Raceway: “We were really
hoping to return to Pocono with a similar performance that
we had in June but it didn’t work out. Somehow we
were still able to salvage a decent finish. I wanted a top-10
but we just ran out of time.”
On Illinois State Fairgrounds: “This
is our weekend to return to victory lane. I haven’t
seen the guys since this pumped up in a while and we’re
taking our car from last year with the same paint scheme
hoping to change our luck a little bit. I can’t wait
for Sunday!”
On Working With Driver Coach Ted Musgrave: “I
can’t say enough about him (Ted). We are working on
a number of projects inside and outside the racecar that
should really affect this team in a positive way in the
last eight races. I’m really glad to have him on-board
and I hope to give him his first ARCA win this weekend.”
On The Key To Winning At Springfield:
“Saving your equipment. Tires are not as crucial here
as they would be at DuQuoin but keeping your fenders tucked
in and minding you matters is the key to succeeding at Springfield.
You also need to have a good handling car, one that does
not want to spin out and a car that you can hammer back
down in the gas without completely sliding it. We have a
good car this weekend and we’re going to show it.”
On The Upcoming Six Races: “We are
going to be busy. The two dirt races are exciting for us
not to mention going back to Salem and throwing a couple
right hand turns at New Jersey Motorsports Park –
this is ARCA Racing at it’s finest. I think these
next eight races our team can be contenders and we can climb
back to inside the top-five in the championship standings.”
Sheltra Motorsports, Illinois
State Fairgrounds Pre-Race Quotes: Grace Sheltra, owner
of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger:
On Pocono: “We made a difference
from the middle of the race to the end of the race and that
was encouraging. The team came together and took a 20th
place finish and made an 11th place finish out of it. That’s
teamwork. Sure, we would have liked to have been in the
top-10 but right now we need all the points we can get.”
On Springfield: “Patrick feels jipped from last year’s
race at Springfield, so he’s going to try and make
up for it this weekend. The guys are excited about the race
and the weather looks fantastic. We know we’re one
of the favorites to win the race, so we’re going to
go out there and prove why.”
On The Upcoming Six Races: “There’s
a little bit of everything mixed in these upcoming six races.
The only that is missing is a restrictor plate race. These
pending races are no stranger to Sheltra Motorsports. We’re
building cars with the intentions of putting the team back
on the right path with a few trips to victory lane in-between.
The team wants to finish inside the top-five by Rockingham,
so that’s what we are chasing.”
