| ‘HORSEPOWER HOUR’ TO
FEATURE 2010 ARCA RACING SERIES CHAMPION PATRICK SHELTRA
Patrick Sheltra, the newly crowned ARCA Racing Series
champion, will be a special guest on ‘Horsepower Hour’
this Monday evening, October 18. The show will air from
6 to 7 pm CDT on Iowa’s Best Country, KIX 101.1, as
well as streamed live online at www.kixweb.com.
While Sheltra has competed in ARCA Series stock cars since
2007, his long-held dream of a national championship became
a reality on Saturday, October 9 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway.
By finishing fourth in the American 200 at the storied 1.017
mile high-banked oval, Sheltra and his Sheltra Motorsports
team captured the 2010 ARCA Racing Series championship.
The championship title was the icing on the cake after
the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team capped off a
stellar season, which was full of consistency and determination.
Sheltra, a 24-year old native of Indiantown, Florida, also
became the first Floridian to capture the ARCA Racing Series
championship since the series’ inception in 1953.
By hoisting the champion’s trophy in his role as
the owner of the No. 60 Tequesta Road and Bridge of Florida
/ Jones Group International Toyota Camry, Sheltra also became
the first owner/driver champion since 1969 when the late
Benny Parsons earned the driver and owner title in the same
season.
“This is a family affair,” Sheltra noted. “We
could not have become the 2010 ARCA Racing Series champions
without the guidance and support of my mom (Grace) and dad
(Rick). We’ve been competing in the ARCA Racing Series
full-time since 2007, and now we’ve been able to prove
once again that a family-owned team can make it all the
way to the top. The Allgaier family did it in 2008 –
this year was our turn.”
In all, the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season proved to be
best racing year to date for Sheltra. In 20 races, he conquered
two wins, 12 top-fives and 17 top-10s. He also controlled
the ARCA Racing Series field six times for 241 laps. Next
up for Sheltra and Co. is the 2010 ARCA Racing Series Championship
Awards Banquet, which will take place on Saturday, December
4 at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington,
Kentucky, near Cincinnati.
Hosted by Iowa Speedway Vice President Craig Armstrong
and “The Morning KIX Start” on-air personality
Todd Collins, and presented by Culver’s, ‘Horsepower
Hour’ airs every Monday evening during the racing
season through the end of November. Listeners may call in
to the show using the toll-free line, 800-753-6101, or e-mail
questions and comments to HorsepowerHour@gmail.com. All
listener calls and e-mails used on the air for the balance
of the 2010 ‘Horsepower Hour’ season will automatically
enter listeners in a drawing for high-speed Pace Car rides
during the 2011 racing season at Iowa Speedway.
